It’s been a manic couple of weeks and we’ve been busting our asses to bring you our second annual AHOODIE Awards. It’s been great discussing our favourite aspects of 2012, with plenty of you joining the debate and, in the process, putting your names in the hat to win a whole host of prizes. Our sponsors have been super generous so it’s dope to see everyone coming together, voting for nominees, and making AHOODIE one of the best places to be this time of year. Anyway, enough of the bullshit, let’s announce some winners:
Best Sneaker: Sponsored by PINS
Winner: Nike Air Yeezy II
It was a damn close race with the SEALs nearly taking it, but the collaborative force of Nike and Kanye was too much for New Balance, with the Yeezy II taking the crown. Many of you stated it was the sneaker’s unique silhouette that clinched it, but has anyone actually got a pair? Like, seriously?
Prize Winner: @MchlFrn
HOTTEST BABE: SPONSORED BY AHOODIE
WINNER: KATE UPTON
If you’ve managed to make it past the picture to this text then well done. Many of you will have tried and failed, for such is Kate Upton’s
massive tits beauty, that once we have stared upon it we lose all rational thought. I’d like to say the votes were spread evenly but Kate absolutely rain away with this, much like I’ll do with her. You want her back? Well bring it on!
Prize Winner: Jack Clancy
BEST MUSIC VIDEO: SPONSORED BY SWALLOWS & DAGGERS
I know what you’re thinking; more boobies! And you’d be right. But there’s way more to this video than just jugs in a strip joint. Beautifully shot and brilliantly edited, the video is as slick as it is powerful. Lana Del Rey gave Frank a run for his money, but the Odd Future man came out on top.
Prize Winner: Harry Harper Dowe
BEST MOVIE: SPONSORED BY NEW REGIME
WINNER: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
I personally thought this category was really tough to call, but what do I know, ay? Nolan’s trilogy-comleting masterpiece absolutely spanked it’s opposition, meaning The Dark Knight Rises is crowned our best movie of 2012. Maybe now Christian Bale can stay a little bit calmer on set.
Prize Winner: Timothy Doan
STANDOUT MOMENT: SPONSORED BY FAT BUDDHA STORE
WINNER: HOLOGRAM TUPAC
There were a lot of moments that stood out this year, but the majority of you cited the second coming of Tupac as the instance that had the biggest impact on your lives. This groundbreaking moment was the icing on the cake that was Dre and Snoop’s Coachella performance. It’s safe to say the world went a little cray. I’m just looking forward to Hologram Conway Twitty.
Prize Winner: Justin Maxson
BEST NEWCOMER BRAND: SPONSORED BY STREET CASUALS
WINNER: RAISED BY WOLVES
Not only did we see some seriously heavy voting for this award, but Twitter went absolutely berserk with people shouting out who they thought should win. Naturally, some of the nominees caught wind of this and started promoting themselves to increase their chances and rightly so, it’s a pretty big deal to win an AHOODIE Award. An honourable mention has to go to COLOURS, who came damn close to winning. Hell, they might even do an Al Gore and demand a re-count, but the award for Best Newcomer Brand 2012 goes to Raised by Wolves. No doubt 2013 will be huge for them.
PRIZE Winner: Stephen Hubener
BEST ARTIST: SPONSORED BY UNDERRATED SUPPLY
WINNER: KENDRICK LAMAR
This award was closer than Mary-Kate and Ashley, with a real even spread of votes. But there has to be a winner and that man is Kendrick Lamar. The Compton rapper has been described by many as the voice of his generation, with his cameo appearance at Coachella propelling him into the limelight, making him an instant star. Lot’s of us have tracked Kendrick for some time now, but it was the release of GKMC that really cemented his place as 2012’s Best Artist.
Prize Winner: Myles Green
BEST BRAND: SPONSORED BY THE CHIMP STORE
WINNER: NEW BALANCE
The only thing we think about more than Kate Upton’s Cat Daddy dance when we
pleasure ourselves go to sleep is New Balance. It’s been an absolutely bumper year for the sneaker makers, with everyone clambering for their kicks. With collaborations dropping left right and centre, combined with the incredible Made in the UK and Made in the USA collections, 2012 has definitely been New Balance’s year. Superior in style, quality and originality. That’s what I’m talking about.
Prize Winner: Liam Saville
AHOODIE ICON: SPONSORED BY FUNKYST
Winner: ACTION BRONSON
It’s the highest honour we can bestow at AHOODIE; the Icon Award. This isn’t just dished out lightly, so when we nominate our candidates we have to make sure they are dope as hell, awesome at what they do, and get us excited when they create something new. Action Bronson is one of those people. Take nothing away from A$AP Rocky, who came a very close second, but Bronsolini just had that little extra weight to tip the decision in his favour. Long. Live. Bronson.
Prize Winner: Johnny Spencer
A big thank you to everyone who voted in this year’s awards. Without you this would all be pointless. Stay reading AHOODIE as we’ve got so much more in store for 2013 and beyond. Prize winners; you will be contacted soon for your delivery details. Congrats!
